INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE SURVEY

Internet-Broadband

The internet, cellular phones and other modern communication networks now shape our economy, our culture and much of our interaction with the people and organizations that are important in our lives. Internet services are transmitted using broadband. Broadband is a transmission technique that enables a large number of messages to be communicated simultaneously. Because broadband infrastructure is essential component of our lives, Cedar City is evaluating whether broadband infrastructure should be owned and managed as a municipal utility. There are a variety of models for a local City to own and manage a broadband network. One model is an open access model where the City owns and operates the infrastructure and the consumer contracts with a private internet service provider (ISP). Another model is one where the City owns and operates both the infrastructure and the internet services. There are many variations for City involvement. The question at this point is, what role should the City play in providing broadband services?

Please respond to the enclosed survey questions to help Cedar City leaders understand the interest of the community for continued evaluation of the models described above. You can respond below.
