How Do I Get A Business License?

Follow These Easy Steps

1. Click here to Register with the State of Utah at the OneStop Online Business Registration. This site will help you register with the state, set up a sales tax ID, if necessary, and link you with the federal government to obtain a Federal ID number, if necessary.

The time it takes to complete the registration varies. If the information necessary to complete the account is available, it takes about 45 minutes (this does not include the 1 business day wait for the name to be approved).

2. Click here to download a copy of the city's business license form. Complete this form and return it to the Cedar City Office, 10 N. Main Street, which is open 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
  1. Answer preregistration questions to determine what has already been registered.
  2. Declare the business entity type.
  3. Reserve the business name and provide reservation payment (if applicable). It takes one business day to process the name reservation, and may take longer if the name is denied.
  4. Describe the business and its activities to determine if tax and unemployment insurance accounts are needed.
  5. Provide physical and mailing addresses.
  6. Provide ownership and management information.
  7. Define the merger acquisition or change in entity type (if applicable).
  8. Provide existing account information (if applicable).
  9. Create articles (if applicable).
  10. Provide electronic signatures.
  11. Confirm and complete the registration, and pay any final fees (if applicable).
  12. Print the necessary documents, and learn about additional steps to registration with other state, and local government entities.
