Cedar City Stage 1 Tour of Utah
Tour of Utah Announces Cedar City Stage 1 Route
(Tuesday, August 7-Start 10:50 a.m., Finish around 2:45 p.m.):
It's called the "Killer Diller" loop for good reason. With two King of the Mountain (KOM) challenges, the loop includes 8,950 feet of elevation gain along the 101 mile/162.5k route. The Parowan to Brian Head KOM is a Category 1 climb that includes 4,500 vertical feet in 15 miles with some sections at a 15% grade. The Stage begins at SUU's Beverley Center for the Arts (on 300 West University Blvd.) Rollout westward up on Leigh Hill and down past Cedar High when the cyclists let down the hammer and head out of town through Enoch, Parowan, Brian Head, Mammoth Creek, Duck Creek, Navajo Lake and down Cedar Canyon. The Bristle Cone KOM will top out at the Summit just past Midway (turnoff to Cedar Breaks). A 2.5-mile loop around Southern Utah University will give cycling fans a real treat to cheer on the breakaway riders and peloton for three laps before finishing were they started under the shadow of the SUMA.
