"This will be the fourth time Cedar City has been the overall start headquarters and Stage 1 host and we look forward to the tremendous energy the Tour brings to town."
Cedar City will host the Tour of Utah team presentations on Saturday, August 4 and Stage 1 of the professional cycling event on Tuesday, August 7. The Tour came to town in 2013, 2014 and again in 2016, in what many have called the most spectacular pro cycling stage ever, with a neutral start through Zion National Park, past Cedar Breaks National Monument, down Cedar Canyon, around SUU campus three times and finishing in front of Cedar City's brand-new Beverly Center for the Arts.
It was announced last fall that Haute Route, one of the largest amateur cycling events in the world based in Switzerland, will be hosting a 3-day event in Cedar City area Sept. 14-16.
"Cedar City will have some of the top professionals and several hundred highly skilled amateur cyclists in the world visit next August and September," said Mayor Wilson. "We look forward to hosting the riders, their families and spectators on an International scale."
In what may become one of the top mountain biking events, the Cedar City Fire Road is on Saturday, August 18. Ride 100K, almost exclusively on dirt roads with some seriously steep climbs. You’ll reach an elevation over 9,000ft. The race is chip-timed, so come see if you can podium or just beat your buddies.
