Hershey's Track Meet

Held in May, this annual track meet is open to youth ages 9 to 14. Participate in several track events, from the 50 meter dash to the mile run, as well as the softball throw and the standing long jump. Winners may qualify for a trip to the national finals held in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Arbor Day

Plant a tree for Arbor Day! This 100 year old tradition takes place in April, when thousands of children all over the country join with their friends and schools to plant trees. During the short Arbor Day program, Arbor Day history is presented, the year’s poster contest winners from area elementary schools are announced, the ‘official’ Arbor Day tree is planted, and park representatives are available to answer your questions about tree care and maintenance in this area.

Trails Day

The first Saturday in June is Trails Day. All across America, people gather to celebrate Trails Day, our only national trails celebration. Cedar City Parks and Recreation sponsors a 5K run on Cedar City’s trail, winding through West Canyon Park and up the tree-lined path through the canyon. Prizes and drawings are just part of this fun celebration.

Punt, Pass & Kick

Held in September, this football skills competition is open to youth ages 8 to 15. Competitors punt, pass and kick a football in a test of distance and accuracy. Winners can advance to the National Finals, held during an NFL playoff game in January.

Pitch Hit & Run

Held in April or May, this baseball skills competition is open to youth 8 to 15. Batting, base running and fielding are tested for distance and accuracy. Winners advance to the sectional competition at Franklin Quest Field in Salt Lake City. Winners have the opportunity to further advance to the Team Competition.
