Cedar City Police Department
The primary
purpose (mission) of a law enforcement agency is to maintain social order within
prescribed ethical and constitutional limits, while providing professional law
enforcement services. To attain this, the Department enforces the law in a
fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial
limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons.
The manner in which the Department accomplishes this is exemplified in our
mission statement, list of values and our goals.
Mission Statement
The Cedar City Police Department shall lead in developing collaborative
working partnerships with all of our community and service providers, so that
each and every citizen may enjoy the highest quality of life. Personalized
community service shall be provided by each and every member of the department.
Through our leadership, courage, and relentless pursuit of service excellence;
in a problem solving partnership with the community, Cedar City will be the
leader of community excellence.

We, the men and women of the Cedar City Police
Department, are committed to provide a safe and secure community by delivering professional and
courteous services as determined in partnership with the citizens.

Department Goals
To accomplish the department's mission, the following eleven general
goals are established. These goals are refined, further defined,
and certain ones given greater emphasis according to the department's
yearly strategic planning:
1. Protection of Life and Property
To provide services that contribute to
the preservation of life, the protection of
property, and the safety of the community.
2. Prevention, Detection, and Investigation of Criminal
Activity
To prevent crime through aggressive
patrol that limits the opportunity for a crime
to occur, and through education of citizens
that reduces the likelihood of them
becoming victims.
3. Apprehension of Offenders
To provide the expeditious and prudent
apprehension of suspected violators of the
law, regardless of their status in the
community, by thorough, appropriate, and
efficient investigations.
4. Maintenance of Public Order
To maintain peace and public order.
To assist during times of natural, technological
or man caused occurrences or disasters.
5. Recovery of Property
To secure and maintain an inventory of
all property, evidence, lost and recovered/stolen
property being held b the law enforcement
agency; thereby ensuring that all property and
evidence is available when needed.
6. Training of Officers
Continue to evaluate and improve the
department training program to fill the needs of
officers, and to promote a high rate of
proficiency in the officers of the department. To
address career development goals of
department personnel.
7. Compliance with Ethical Standards
To ensure the integrity and adherence to
professional standards of the department by
processing and investigating all complaints
against department personnel.
8. Traffic Control
To provide for the safe and effective
flow of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic and
the investigation of traffic accidents.
9. Community Service
Partner with the community to enhance
the quality of life and resolve neighborhood
concerns in support of community oriented
policing. Ensure the department's community
relations/crime prevention objectives are
shared by all personnel.
10. Department Administration
Establish a working environment
that encourages effective management, teamwork,
empowerment, communications and
professional development.
11. Department Evaluation
To develop a performance
instrument to periodically evaluate the department's
overall performance in meeting its
goals and objectives. Deficiencies noted by the
evaluation instrument will be
identified and remedial plans developed and implemented
to correct all deficiencies.
