Cedar City is located at 5,840 feet above sea level where the spectacular Markagunt Plateau bumps into the Great Basin. This unique setting among mountains and high desert makes Cedar City an ideal location for year-round outdoor activities, from cycling, running and hiking in the summer to every winter sport imaginable.
Cedar City Events is tasked with creating and hosting events that expose more and more people this outdoor paradise with annual events such as the Cedar City Half Marathon, the Fire Road Dirt Fondo, and the Cedar CitySoapbox Challenge. In 2013, Cedar City was host to the Tour of Utah international cycling stage race, and more events are on the horizon.
For nearly a century, Cedar City has welcomed travelers from around the world who come to see the area's amazing national parks and monuments. The city has grown up hosting visitors, and a unique culture of volunteerism and community involvement has become part of who we are as residents.
The Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival was founded in 1961, and since then, Cedar City has become home to the Utah Summer Games, the Groovefest American Music Festival, the July Jamboree, the Livestock Heritage Festival, and dozens of other events. This is what Festival City USA is all about.
So get your calendar and pick a Cedar City Event or two (or more) to call your own. Come and run the Half Marathon in September, or build a Soap Box Derby car to race in May. Tune up your mountain bike for the Fire Road race in July, or just come and watch them all. In Cedar City, there's rarely a dull moment.
